Springtime

Every season, I say to myself and everyone else "This is my favorite season".
I'm not really feeling spring though, here... It was 96 on Monday, and totally miserable. This time last year it was snowing in Seattle! Then the weather went bipolar on us and now it was only about 60 today.

So now I am alone in my room, listening to American Pie. Which, incidentally, is exactly how I'd like to spend my afternoon. I like to be with people as much as anyone else, I just love to be alone and sing along to Don McLean sometimes too. Especially outside.

Which brings me to my point. Despite the heat (then the cold!) and every other bad memory I have associated with spring, it is indescribably beautiful to sit out on the hills with the smell of the flowers and the trees looking at the ocean. In Seattle, it was a different kind of spring. Cold, with flowers blooming and the return of the birds...

Since moving here, I've discovered where those birds always went when I was a child! The sound of them is one of the most wonderful things I can listen to though. Last spring, I would wake up at 5 to the sound of birds singing... The juxtaposition of rebirth and newness combined with such loss confused me, but also comforted me.

Spring also brings the prospect of summer, which I am looking forward to immensely. I always did such fun things with my mom and dad as a kid, so I hope that I can recreate those feelings! I'll be up in Seattle for a while, camping and staying in my cabin. Friends are coming down here, and I might do a triathlon, if I can train hard enough...!

Next year I am planning on spending a semester in Argentina. I am just finishing up the application through AFS.

I can't wait!

Happy spring!

Its a picture of you and youre looking like, clueless... and youre staring at a naked dude's a$$ and you got a little drool coming out of your mouth and it should be heroic, but you look more pathetic and it says "Malk: it's ok to be gay"

Smodcast 75.

Or you miss the orange and hit your hand...painful AND embarrassing.

Anytime! I love period fashion, and your work is really an inspiration. Where did you learn about how the dresses were constructed/reference images? From school, or self taught in books?

Thanks! I've been researching period costume for years, and I like hanging out with costumers and seamstresses. I don't much enjoy sewing myself, unfortunately, which means that at the moment, I get my old clothing fix from wearing vintage dresses from the '30s and '40s. But someday (when I can afford it) I'll have a mid 17th century or early 18th century ensemble. :)

Hey, that's still pretty cool. I used to live in Seattle and there were some awesome vintage shops with all sorts of dresses from the 20's on there. Do you mean clothing that is ACTUALLY from the 17th and 18th century or a reproduction?

Hahaha, there's no way I could afford vintage clothing that old. I have an 1890s bodice I wore once, but never again after that, because it's too old and fragile. However, that is the oldest garment I own. A reproduction would be expensive enough... :)
